Another major shift in luxury fashion: Maria Grazia Chiuri has announced her departure as creative director of Dior after nine years. In an Instagram post, Chiuri reflected on her time at the brand, calling it an “extraordinary opportunity” and thanking Bernard and Delphine Arnault.
Chiuri made history as Dior’s first female creative director, debuting in 2016 with a feminist edge that defined her tenure.
Her exit is part of a larger trend sweeping the fashion world. Alessandro Michele, formerly of Gucci, is now at Valentino, succeeding Pierpaolo Piccioli—who just took over as artistic director of Balenciaga. Chanel also saw a major change, with Virginie Viard stepping down, making way for Matthieu Blazy of Bottega Veneta.
Even Donatella Versace has announced her departure, marking a surprising end to her era.
As for Dior’s future? Jonathan Anderson, who recently joined to lead menswear, is set to become the brand’s sole creative director.
